Mommy Time $25 Barnes & Noble Gift Card Giveaway- 10/01/09

barnes and nobleLast month’s gift card giveaway was a lot of fun. It was interesting to hear how fellow mommies spend their “Mommy Time”. This month’s gift card giveaway is a $25 Gift Card to Barnes & Noble. Barnes & Noble is another place I like to go when I get at least a good two hours to myself. I can thumb through tons of the latest magazines and check out a book or two for my book a week challenge (I challenge myself to read one book every week) as well as have a cup of coffee.

My favourite book is Charlaine Harris’s “Dead Until Dark”. I love the TV show, but it can be very dark and sometimes hard to watch. The books on the other hand, while being the same stories and- yes- about vampires, are pretty much popcorn reading and great to cheer me up in an afternoon. Sookie Stackhouse has to be the best book-heroine ever!

Right now my favorite is a series and not one particular book. I just read all the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich including the between the numbers, they are great, light, funny reads. All I need now is the newest between the numbers that is coming out at the end of the month.

That is flat impossible–after more than 60 years of reading, there are too many that I have enjoyed to pick a favorite. There are several authors that I pick up without even looking at the synopsis, and I often re-read books I like. For the purposes of this contest I will pick a book name out of the metaphorical hat though–Outlander, by Gabaldon.

The fun beach reads or the serious non fiction. Popular authors like Stephanie Meyer or Stephen King. How can anyone select a favorite?

I like so many books that it’s impossible to pick just one- I usually read at least one a week. So, I’ll just choose my current book which is Obsidian Prey by Jayne Ann Krentz writing as Jayne Castle. She is my favorite author because of the snappy repartee in her books, the interesting situations that the strong, resourceful heroine finds herself in and the great heroes. Obsidian Prey seems to be following her usual vibrant writing style.

How does one pick a favorite book? I’ve read so many. But the book that grabbed me from the start, that I have read over and over, is “Alas, Babylon”. It was written in the late 50′s, at the height of the Cold War. It is post apocalyptic fiction at it’s best. A little dated, but so what? Thanks!

ONE favorite book??? That’s HARD. I have a favorite genre – mystery/thriller/suspense. I have some favorite authors – James Lee Burke, Kathy Reichs and Janet Evanovitch to name a few. But one favorite book? When I was young, it would have been a tie between Gone With The Wind and Forever Amber… One book I consistently recommend to people is “The Eights” by Catherine Neville. Does that count?

  129. HSB Suzanne (aka Anita) on Mon, 21st Sep 2009 12:53 PM

My favorite book is actually a series of books… The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Why? Because I love the subtle references to God, and they are SOOO much fun to read!

When I was a child, I read ALL of Louisa May Alcott’s books. The one I read over and over again was “Jack and Jill”. Now I’ve never seen anything about this book any place, but I still remember when one of the teen agers in the book, died, and I wept through it. And when I was “down” I would read that chapter over and over again. And I’d cry every time. Someday I’ll have to see if it’s in the library and I’ll take it out and see how I react now that I’m old!

I really hate to list a favorite book since I have loved a bunch of them. But, I’ll pick Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham! I can’t tell you how many times I have read it- doesn’t matter if there are kids around or not. I love the rhyme; it’s just an ageless book!!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

    Great giveaway!

My favorite book is The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. I have re-read it so many times and it never gets old. It’s a world where women have no rights and as a feminist, I can very much identify with women’s rights and keeping those rights. Margaret Atwood’s tale of women serving men and their wealthy families is not as far off into the fiction era as many would like to think.

    On The Road-Jack Kerouac

The book that inspired my girlfriend and I to road trip across the States. The free-spirit nature of this book is to good to pass up.

The Road by Carson McCormick was one of the best books Ive read in a very long time. So well written and a completely engaging story line.
